The 2025 Colors of the Year and How to Apply Them to Your Website Design
Each year, the major paint brands unveil their trending color palettes for the upcoming season. From home decor and fashion to graphic and web design, these colors serve as a source of inspiration for creative professionals and designers of all kinds.
For 2025, we’re going to see a lot of vivid, cozy, and earthy tones. I’m excited to see this year’s color trends embracing warm and inviting hues. They feel fresh and visually stimulating, perfect for capturing your audience’s attention.
Let's dive into the vibrant palette that will define 2025.
Benjamin Moore: Cinnamon Slate
Taking the number one spot on my list because I think it might be my favorite, Cinnamon Slate is a muted plum color with brown undertones. It feels elegant yet earthy and cozy. Benjamin Moore’s website describes it as, “A delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown. This nuanced color brings a smooth familiarity to any design.”
Valspar: Encore
How gorgeous is this color?! Encore is the perfect deep, bold blue. It’s a rich and deeply saturated color with cool undertones, giving it a sophisticated but calm and cozy appeal. According to Valspar’s website, blue is enjoying a comeback this year. Their website states, “Encore is an anchoring shade that embodies constancy and confidence to let you create a joyful respite from the ebbs and flows of life.”
Sherwin Williams: Quietude
I love the soothing, organic feel of this color. Quietude is a sagey green with hints of blue undertones that create a sense of tranquility and serenity (I think the name describes it perfectly). Sherwin Williams’ website calls it, “A soft sage with a whisper of blue influence.”
Behr: Rumors
I’m not usually a fan of red, but I think Rumors has a warm, earthy tone that makes it feel a little more inviting. It’s certainly bold, but also gives off a modern, elegant vibe. Behr’s website simply states, “Rumors is a luxurious ruby red adding warmth and rich allure.” I rarely have clients who request red as part of their color palette, so I’ll be curious to see if anyone is influenced by this trending color in 2025.
Dunn-Edwards: Caramelized
A not-so-boring neutral, Caramelized is a soft terracotta color with warm orange and brown undertones. I love the modern minimalist feel of this hue; it’s vibrant enough to stand on its own, but neutral enough to pair with so many colors. Dunn-Edwards describes it as having, “earthy tones reminiscent of sunbaked clay.”
Dutch Boy: Mapped Blue
Another beautifully serene color for 2025, Mapped Blue is a modern take on blue-green. This relaxing color pairs well with both cool and warm tones, making it a versatile design choice. Dutch Boy’s website describes it as, “A beautiful, medium-tone blue with slight yellow undertones.”
Glidden: Purple Basil
Who doesn’t love purple?! It’s can convey such a wide range of messages, from symbolizing luxury or royalty to evoking creativity or wisdom. Purple can be serious, no-nonsense or magical and mysterious. So it’s no surprise to me that another shade of my favorite color has earned its spot as a ‘color of the year’. Purple Basil is a warm, nature-inspired violet that is bold and vibrant, yet sophisticated and cozy. Glidden’s website states that, “Purple Basil represents the appreciation for self-discovery and self-expression that has led to the rise of maximalism across industries, including design, fashion and consumer goods.”

I recommend choosing three to five colors and using them consistently throughout your website design and any marketing you do. Think about using one main color, a couple background colors, and an accent color. Read more about the importance of cohesive branding and how to create a visual style guide here.
Remember, color is the foundation of your website's design, providing the visual backdrop for your content and brand identity to take center stage.
