Client Spotlight: Web Design for a Private Practice Therapist

When your work centers around helping others feel safe, supported, and understood, your website should reflect that same experience from the very first click. That was exactly the goal behind this recent website redesign for therapist, Dodi Lamm. Her previous website no longer reflected the warmth, clarity, and professionalism of her practice, and she wanted a more intentional online presence that felt aligned with both her personality and the clients she serves.

As a designer specializing in websites for therapists and mental health professionals, I love helping clients create a space that feels calm, approachable, and easy to navigate, while also supporting important business goals like SEO, client inquiries, and long-term growth.

A Longstanding Creative Collaboration

About seven years ago, I created a logo for Dodi’s practice and assisted with setting up an online course. It was so rewarding to come back together and evolve her online presence in a way that reflected where both her practice and brand are today.

Because we already had a strong foundation and understanding of her vision, this redesign process felt collaborative, thoughtful, and deeply personalized from the start.

Goals for the Website Refresh

Like many therapists and private practice owners, Dodi’s needs had evolved over time. Her website needed to do more than simply exist online, it needed to actively support her practice while creating a welcoming experience for potential clients.

Some of the primary goals for the redesign included:

  • Improving SEO visibility for her practice

  • Creating a more authentic and personalized online presence

  • Making it easier for potential clients to schedule consultations

  • Adding a lead magnet to grow her email list

  • Designing a website that appealed to her ideal demographic

  • Simplifying navigation so visitors could easily find information

This project was a full website redesign, including updates to the page structure, website copy, imagery, colors, and overall user experience throughout the site.

Creating a Website That Feels Human & Approachable

One of the most important aspects of web design for private practice professionals is creating a space that feels emotionally safe and approachable. Therapy websites shouldn’t feel cold, corporate, or overly complicated. Instead, the goal is to create clarity.

For Dodi’s redesign, we focused on creating a website that felt grounded, warm, and easy to move through. The updated color palette, imagery, typography, and layout choices were intentionally selected to support a calm and welcoming experience, while still maintaining professionalism and credibility.

The result is a website that feels much more aligned with her personality and the experience she provides to clients in her practice.

Prioritizing Simplicity & Ease of Navigation

When someone is searching for a therapist, they’re often feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally exhausted. A confusing or cluttered website can unintentionally create more friction during an already vulnerable process.

That’s why one of our biggest priorities was creating a simple, intuitive website structure that allows visitors to quickly find the information they need.

The website build included thoughtfully organized pages including:

  • Home

  • About

  • Services

  • Journal

  • Consultation

  • Blog

  • Contact

  • Custom 404 Page

Every page was designed with both user experience and SEO in mind, so the site could better support long-term visibility in search results, while remaining easy for real people to navigate.

Making Scheduling Easier with Acuity Integration

Another key goal for this project was simplifying the booking process.

To help streamline scheduling, we integrated Acuity Scheduling directly into the website, making it easy for potential clients to book consultations without unnecessary back-and-forth communication.

For therapists and wellness professionals, removing friction from the scheduling process can make a significant difference in client conversions and overall user experience.

Supporting Long-Term Growth Through SEO & Email Marketing

In addition to improving the overall design and user experience, we also focused on building a stronger foundation for long-term marketing and visibility.

This included:

  • SEO-focused website structure and copy

  • Strategic page organization and internal linking

  • Optimized calls-to-action

  • A lead magnet for newsletter sign-ups

  • Improved opportunities for organic search traffic

Personalized Support Beyond the Website Launch

Part of my process includes making sure clients feel empowered and supported beyond launch day, whether they choose to manage their website themselves or hire ongoing support when needed.

Like all of my website designs, this project included personalized resources, recommendations, and tutorial videos so Dodi could confidently maintain and update her website moving forward if she chooses to manage it herself.

I never want clients to feel intimidated by their website. My goal is to create websites that feel manageable and sustainable long-term, while offering ongoing support if/when needed.

And of course, if clients would prefer to hand off future updates, refinements, or additions, I’m always available to help!

The Results

This redesign for Dodi is a great example of how thoughtful, intentional design can create, not only a stronger online presence, but also a more supportive experience for the people seeking help. You can view the newly redesigned website here.
