How Long Does It Take to Build a Therapy Website?
One of the most frequent questions I’m asked during my web design consultations (second only to cost) is, “How long will the website build take?” So I figured I’d break down the timelines for both of my website packages for easy reference.
Those are the design and build timelines once we start. What happens before we start matters just as much, so let's talk about that first.
What Affects Your Timeline, No Matter Which Package You Choose
Every project has variables outside the calendar. These are the ones I see most often:
How ready your content is.
If your bio, service descriptions, and other website copy are written and photos gathered before we begin, we move fast. If we're writing copy from scratch or waiting on professional photos, that adds time on the front end.
How quickly you respond to check-ins.
A design project moves in a back-and-forth rhythm. The faster you can review a draft or answer a question, the faster we keep moving.
How many rounds of revisions you need.
Both packages include a set number of revision rounds. Using them thoughtfully (all your feedback at once, rather than piecemeal) keeps things on track.
None of this is meant to put pressure on you. It's just useful to know going in, so you can plan your own week around the project too.
THE QUICK WIN: What the Timeline Looks Like
This package is built for therapists who want a professional, strategic website fast, without weeks of back and forth. It starts from a semi-custom Squarespace foundation, so we're not building every element from zero.
A typical week looks something like this:
Day 1: Kickoff call and strategy
Day 2: Design and build
Day 3: Review and revise
Day 4: Optimize
Day 5: Review, final touches, and launch
If your content is ready to go when we start, this timeline holds steady. It's the right fit if you want a website quickly and on a budget, but that still feels polished, professional, and like you.
THE SIGNATURE SITE: What the Timeline Looks Like
This is the fully custom option, built from the ground up around your brand, your specialties, and how you want new clients to experience your practice before they meet you.
Here's roughly how the weeks break down:
Week 1: Kickoff call and strategy. We decide the visual direction, I apply this to the website and design the Home page. We review this first page together via Google Meet to ensure the project moves in the right direction from there.
Week 2: Halfway through this week, we’ll have another call to go over progress and address any necessary revisions.
Week 3: Full site build across all pages and another mid-week screenshare so we can discuss each page together. Optimizations start this week and continue into the following week.
Week 4: Review, revisions, and final polish before launch.
Large group practices, needing more than 10 pages, or requiring custom features, can sometimes add to this timeline. We'll always talk through what to expect for your specific project before we begin.
How to Keep Your Project Moving
A few small things make a real difference in how smoothly your timeline goes:
Gather your professional photos and images early, before we officially start
Have a rough idea of your bio, mission, services and specialties written out
Set aside time to review drafts while the project is active
You don't need to have everything perfect. You just need to be ready to move when it's your turn in the process. Working together collaboratively is what culminates in a website that feels authentic to you and your practice.
